How to Maintain Beautiful, Healthy Feet

Our feet carry us around all day long so it is important that we take time to pamper them. Here are some simple ways home remedies to keep them looking and feeling great!
Wash your feet daily
It goes without saying but every time you shower, make sure to pay attention to you feet. This is where the Elevease will be a great help as you can easily lift your foot to the stand and wash safely. Make sure to get in between the toes and toenails then pat gently with a towel afterward.

Tannic acid (found in Black Tea) is a natural antibacterial agent that helps prevent unwanted odor-causing bacteria. Moisturising foot scrubs made from botanicals such as crushed fruit pits, sugar, or chemical exfoliators also help remove dead skin.

Moisturise your feet everyday
Before you head to bed, rub some moisturiser on your feet and put on a pair of socks. A rich foot cream or balm containing shea butter or cocoa butter will soften and soothe skin whilst geranium oil and tea tree oil both have germ and bacteria killing properties, making them excellent treatments. So look out for products with these ingredients. Also keep a look out for balms or heel creams containing salicylic acid or urea to soften tough calluses.

We will always wear appropriate clothing to suit the weather outside. The same consideration should be taken for our feet.

  • Summer: Keep cool with sandals
  • Winter: Wrap up with woolly socks and waterproof shoes

Combatting Odor
This is a common problem and thankfully there are ways to address it:

  • Change your socks a couple of times a day.
  • Keep your shoes clean or buy a new pair if you use them often.
  • Try foot powder on your feet and in your shoes to keep them dry.
  • Use a quality antiperspirant foot spray. There are many types of foot antiperspirants but the one that really works like a charm is a spray that contains aluminum chloride (Aluminum Hydroxychloride). The best one available on Amazon is “Drysol Dab On”.

Public Showers
If you’re using showers at your gym or any public place, make sure to wear flip flops as a precaution to avoid developing any nasty foot infections.

Keep you toenails in shape
It is important to trim your toe nails every couple of weeks in order to keep them strong and heathy. To avoid in grown toe nails trim the straight across. Also avoid trimming them too short as this could cause an infection or again a nasty in grown toe nail.

Your nails naturally become more brittle with age. Ingredients in some nail polish and polish remover can speed the process, drying out your nails. It is recommended to use polish that is free of formaldehyde, toluene, and dibutyl phthalate and a nail polish remover free of alcohol.

To moisturise your toenails, try using a cuticle cream, petroleum jelly, or Vitamin E oil. Put it over the entire nail, including the cuticle, and gently rub it in.

Happy Pampering!
